RFEF Day 1 in Madrid.

The first day on site at the Real Federacion Espana Football has been pretty amazing to be completely honest. Today we had lectures from several members of the RFEF coaching and fitness staff and discovered the philosophies which have led to the Spanish domination of all things football over the last 10 years plus. The Spanish national teams at all age levels have won every major trophy since the turn of the century and they play very attractive football based on possession and passing. This afternoon we spent time with the Coaching Director of Spanish youth football, a very inspirational man who lost his left leg after being run over by a truck when he was 1 year old yet has risen to the top of his profession in coaching and is loved and respected by everyone in the game. The rest of the afternoon was spent observing training sessions with all ages from 5 years up to 13 and seeing how they develop these age groups in the methodologies you witness at all levels of Spanish football. All in all it has been very informative so far and we are learning a lot. Pictures to follow........

  1. Great commentary Richard! I'm interested in how they develop the kids through the teenage years. My 16 year old step daughter plays for Northern Tigers and is after any 'hot tips' from your new Spanish friends..
